Put a coat on em!
Lazybrooker’s, it’s time to put a coat on your home! Here we are in early December and we are about to endure our first freeze of the winter. I am sure you all will be doing whatever you can to make your home “freeze proof” if there is such a thing. I thought I would list a few tips for trying to avoid annoying and expensive plumbing disasters.
- Shut off the water flow to outside faucets, disconnect all garden hoses and drain the lines.
- Open doors to cabinets that contain pipes running along exterior walls. This allows warm air to circulate.
- Pipes running through attics and crawl spaces should be wrapped with insulation or heating tape.
- Leave each faucet in your home dripping while the temps are at or below freezing. Be sure to turn on both the cold and hot water.
If a frozen pipe does burst, make sure to shut off the main water valve and call a plumber.
Us Houstonians arent necessarily use to this type of weather, so take any precautionary measures you can. Hope you all come out of the short lived freezing temps just fine. My wife and her family in Kansas loved our Houston Chronicle headline this morning… “Houston braces for 2 inches of snow!” That’s alot for us! By all means, enjoy the snow, we may not see anymore this year.
